Creating the World Cup Championship Ring: Australian Men's Cricket Team
A story of legacy, craftsmanship and national pride.
When the Australian Men’s Cricket Team lifted the 2023 ICC World Cup trophy, they also received a symbol of their achievement unlike any before it — a bespoke championship ring crafted by James Thredgold Jeweller in Adelaide.
This piece represents more than victory. It’s a story of skill, teamwork, and the enduring connection between craftsmanship and sport.
Project Brief & Concept
When James Thredgold Jeweller was commissioned to design the official World Cup Championship Ring, the vision was clear: create something that would honour both the team’s triumph and the timeless values of cricket — dedication, precision and pride.
Each ring needed to capture the spirit of the win while remaining a wearable piece of fine jewellery. It had to feel Australian, sophisticated, and symbolic — not a trophy for the shelf, but a piece to be worn and remembered for a lifetime.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Every element of the design reflects thoughtful intention.
The ring was crafted in yellow gold, echoing the Australian team’s iconic green-and-gold colours and representing excellence and resilience. A diamond halo surrounds the face — a mark of brilliance and unity — while tsavorite garnets, one of the world’s rarest green gemstones, provide a vibrant connection to the national palette.
At the centre sits a white-gold cricket ball, symbolising the precision and performance of the one-day game. Each ring was handcrafted in Adelaide by our team of master jewellers, combining traditional techniques with modern precision to create a piece of lasting significance.
Design Highlights & Personalisation
No two rings are the same. Each is engraved with the player’s name and cap number, ensuring that every piece is as individual as the person who earned it.
The outer edge features the World Cup trophy silhouette framed by three gold stumps — a subtle nod to the wickets that define the game. Inside, the ring bears a quiet reminder of the achievement it represents: World Cup Champions 2023.
A Celebration of Australian Craft
This commission was more than an honour — it was an opportunity to showcase South Australian craftsmanship on the world stage.
For over three decades, James Thredgold Jeweller has celebrated the artistry of fine jewellery — from natural diamonds and gold heirlooms to bespoke creations made by hand in Adelaide.
The World Cup Championship Ring reflects that same commitment: authentic materials, meticulous detail, and a belief that true value lies in meaning as much as in metal.
Continuing the Story
Legacy isn’t just about victory — it’s about what endures.
The Championship Ring will remain a reminder of that moment in time, of a team that came together to achieve something remarkable, and of the craftsmanship that gave form to their success.
